Discovered tucked away among a collection of old architectural remnants, this preloved marble piece immediately caught my attention. Its weight, its quiet presence, and the gentle turning of its form suggested a story worth uncovering. Feeling the cool marble - likely hand-carved, possibly Carrara and the subtle crystalline texture, I knew it belonged in Room of Remembered Finds: a fragment shaped with intention, carrying echoes of the structure it once supported.

This beautifully weighty architectural section is carved from what appears to be a single block of white marble. The turned profile, the slight lip at the upper edge, and the shallow concave hollow at the top all point toward its original role as the lower portion of an urn, pedestal, or finial - though its exact purpose remains uncertain. The hollow is bowl-like rather than cylindrical, shaped to receive an upper element rather than to hold soil or serve as a vessel.

The stone has a soft, cool tone with gentle veining and a subtly sugary crystalline texture often associated with Carrara marble, although the precise quarry is unknown. The concentric turning marks visible on the top surface, along with the hand‑worked irregularities beneath, suggest it was shaped on a traditional stone‑turning lathe, a method commonly used in marble workshops of the late 19th to early 20th century.

Now separated from its original architectural context, it stands beautifully as a sculptural object in its own right - commanding, tactile and quietly expressive. At 31 cm tall and weighing 12.07 kg, it carries both visual and physical weight - a fragment shaped to anchor something once grand.

A remembered fragment, carrying its past in every curve.
