Antique Royal Bonn Pitcher and Basin Set Franz Anton Mehlem (Germany, c.1890)

This impressively sized, matching set dates to the late 19th or early 20th century (c. 1890-1920) and features a stunning Neo-classical design. Measuring basin diameter - 40cm - Pitcher height - 29cm and with a combined weight of 5.56kg, this is a substantial and genuinely commanding presence - the kind of piece that stops a room.

Both pieces bear the authentic 'Tower and Monogram' export mark with 'Germany' and 'Royal Bonn' also stamped. The hand-painted pattern code of 5313/1 is present on both pieces, confirming they are a true original pair.

The design comprises of a delicate ivory/cream background/base intricately decorated with pink rose garlands (swags), green ribbons and hand-applied gold leaf (gilt) accents on the rim of the basin as well as the handle and body of the pitcher.

Overall, this pair are in excellent antique condition, and the glaze remains bright and vibrant. It is possible to see evidence of some crazing when examined closely, however, this is common and to be expected in pieces of this age.

In terms of the gilding, this remains vibrant around the body of the pitcher and the basin, although there is some rubbing of the gilt on the well-used and well-loved sections such as the handle of the pitcher and the top edge of the basin. A testament to a life well-lived, this is a piece that was truly cherished - and it shows.
