An exquisite preloved find for the curated home, this Mid-Century Modernist sculpture captures the essence of 'Biomorphic Abstraction.' Reminiscent of the works of Barbara Hepworth and the St. Ives School, this piece transforms heavy stone into a fluid, emotional silhouette. A stylized kneeling figure that is eternally graceful. Whether viewed as a figure in supplication or a study in organic geometry, its presence is both grounding and serene. I believe this to be a unique studio piece or an unsigned artist's proof, which I consider only adds to its mystery.
Hand-carved from a single block of natural stone (likely a banded Onyx Marble or polished Siltstone). It features stunning geological sediment layers in tones of warm sand, blush pink, and charcoal grey.
Exceptionally smooth and cold to the touch, with a high-buffed waxy luster that catches the light beautifully.
This sculpture is in excellent vintage condition with no notable chips or cracks. The base reveals the authentic, natural variation of the stone - a testament to its hand-crafted heritage. Geologically distinctive, this substantial piece stands 37.5cm tall and weighs 1.63kg, making it a commanding centrepiece.
A distinctive find that brings heritage and presence to your curated collection of storied pieces.
Curator’s Note
In my quest at Room of Remembered Finds, I look for pieces that bridge the gap between art and nature. This sculpture is a perfect example - the natural 'imperfections' of the stone grain perfectly complement the perfect, man-made curves of the figure. A sophisticated statement piece for a mantel, bookshelf, or pedestal, particularly suited to 'minimalist' or 'organic modern' styles.
